Discovering Traditional Places
Korea is a mix between ancient and modern culture and has a rich History. I’m sure that beside the casual things to do, you would like to learn or experience unique things. Here are some places that I recommend visiting to learn more about the country:
1. Seodaemun Prison History Hall
- Dongnimmun Station (독립문역) on Line 3 (the orange line)
- Exit: 5
- Distance: About a 5-minute walk from the station.
Seodaemun Prison History hall is a very interesting place to learn more about the Japan-Korea war.
We can see how Japanese use to treat and torture Korean people.
But also all the events that happened during those dark years for Korea.
And most importantly how they got their independence.
The site is made in order to show how it was and we can experience getting in a torture box and find many things like tools, food recipients or even clothes.
It’s a big place but 1 hour is enough to visit all of the prison.
You can also find a “museum boutique” at the end to buy some souvenirs!
This visit is a must-do if you want to know more about the culture and history.
2. Gyeongbokgung Palace
- Subway Station: Gyeongbokgung Station (경복궁역) on Line 3
- Exit: 5
- Distance: About a 5-10 minute walk from the station
The Gyeongbokung Palace is THE must-do in Korea! You can visit it at any season to discover an amazing culture and palace.
In order to live a sensational experience, I rented a Hanbok at Daehan Hanbok; but there are many shops around the palace.
I was feeling like a princess from the Joseon Dynasty!
If you are a k-drama fan like me, what are you waiting for?
Visit the palace and wear a Hanbok. Trust me, you will never regret it!
3. Bongeunsa Temple
- Bongeunsa Station (봉은사역) on Line 9 (the gold line)
- Exit: 1
- Distance: About a 5-minute walk from the station.
- Alternatively, Samseong Station (삼성역) on Line 2 (the green line)
- Exit: 6
- Distance: About a 10-minute walk from the station.
Bongeunsa is a unique temple in the heart of Seoul.
I’ve never been to such a calm and soothing place.
You can enjoy the view and take a walk while seeing people praying around.
It is like a spiritual trip, after visiting this temple you will feel all relaxed.
You can assist to events or prayers but make sure to respect this cult!
Don’t miss this place if you go to Seoul!
4. Insadong
- Subway Station: Anguk Station (안국역) on Line 3
- Exit: 6
- Distance: About a 5 minute walk from the station
Insadong is a mix between ancient and modern culture of Korea.
You can find many things to do in the area like visit expositions, buy souvenirs or go to cafes. It is a nice place to visit if you want to immerse yourself in Korean culture.
Also it has nice spots for photos!
I really enjoyed visiting this area and definitely recommend you to go there!
5. Eungbongsan mountain
- Subway Station: Geumho (금호역) Station on Line 3
- Exit: 2
- Distance: About a 30-minute walk from the station
One of my favorite places: Eungbonsan mountain.
To be honest, it was a bit tiring to climb but the view at the top is just amazing.
I was breathless and I didn’t want to leave.
I really enjoyed eating a pizza in front of the skyline view.
And trust me, you should do the same.
Even eating just snacks while watching the sunset is unbelievable!
And also you can find a flower garden 5-minutes from there that you must visit during spring/summer.
Stay is Life.
